A new board for general debates

I have realised that until now there has been no really convenient board for general photography chatter.

The soapbox board is really for non-photography topics, so if you have something to chat about that is a photographic topic, but doesn't fit well into one of the other boards, here is the place for it!

Re: A new board for general debates

A good move! There's usually at least one of us who wants to prattle on about one thing or another!

Whats in a review?

Hi all

Here's a 'prattle', I often scan the internet for reviews especially before I buy a bit of kit, such as a camera or lens. I normally only pick out the well established and respected review sites. However, it amazed me in the differences there were from one review to another when I was doing my market research on the Panny G-3.
One well known international review site only gave it average marks for image quality and rated the GH-1 better, where as another well known site gave it 5 out of 5 for image quality. I have noticed that this seems to be the same for the E-system as well as other makes, they are either awful, average or good, but 'stunning' is only ever used in the context of Nikon or Canon.

I tend to be influenced by these tests to some degree as I need to know what to steer clear of. When it comes to Canon and Nikon, most review sites seem to be unanimous in praise with only small differences of opinion.

One site was actually 'brave' enough to rate the Panny G-3 heads above its Nikon rival, Wow!
I'm only being a grumpy old man as one does from time to time.
Its a funny old world isn't it.
Forgot to say, my G-3 is 'stunning'.

Re: Whats in a review?

Yes the G3 is a little gem, far better than I really expected it to be in every respect.
