Re: Best Print Size for Four Thirds

Assuming you don't want to crop off any of the image, the length-to-width ratio of a 4/3 sensor is 4:3. If you pull out your calculator and divide the long side by the short side of the print, sizes...

Re: 170th FTU Salon Theme: Butterflies and Moths

We've finally emerged from our unusually big snowstorm and deep-freeze, and have absurdly warm weather and thunderstorms in the forecast in a couple of days . . . neither are butterfly and moth...

Re: 50-200SWD E-M1 combo again after firmware update

Thank you for the little test, Ian. These images certainly look sharp and in focus. Can you comment on the AF speed of the E-M1/50-200 SWD? And were you using single or continuous AF?

Re: Portrait stand for Panorama

I'm not certain what you mean. Are you talking about how the camera rotates the image in playback mode, when you view your photos on the rear screen after taking them? This does not affect how the...

Re: Olympus unveils OM-D E-M5 Mark II

To my thinking, an "advanced enthusiasts" camera should offer the best possible support for legacy lenses. I bought the E-M5 as an upgrade to my older 4/3 camera with the understanding/expectation...

Re: Olympus unveils OM-D E-M5 Mark II

This is a beautiful camera, and the upgrades to the construction, specs, and interface look excellent. But the lack of PDAF is a terrible mistake, IMO, and it's a deal-breaker for me. My biggest...

Re: Stylus 1 Firmware 2.0 available now.

I definitely wish they would add focus peaking to the E-M5! I use MF quite often: landscapes, when using my SWD lenses (which don't AF so well on the E-M5), and with the manual-only Samyang fisheye...

Re: Nicaragua - Another Stint

I like the blue theme of this one as well. The others from this set don't interest me as much because the people don't look very engaged with the viewer--either too small/far away, or looking off to...

Re: Ask your questions about the new OM-D family and E-M5 camera

It's not a bug, it's a feature! In the highlight/shadow display mode, those orange and blue areas are showing you parts of the image that are completely white and completely black. It's very useful...

Re: Hello from the 'States!

John sums it up well, as always. :) With native MFT lenses, the latest MFT bodies focus exceptionally well in low light. I don't have the lenses you mention in your other post, teesquare, but with...

Re: It's a black and white world we live in

Great photos, John! I especially like #3, with the contrast between the traditional clothing of the Hasidim and their modern cameras. But all of these are very well done.

Re: Am I seeing things or are the images grainy?

I'm not quite sure what you're seeing. In the first image, the sky looks blotchy to me, but I don't see anything I would call grainy. I can't tell what is causing the blotchiness, but it's not...

Re: Olympus 12-40 vs 12-60

I've never used the 12-40, but I face/have faced the same question. The smaller size compared to the 12-60 would be nice, and I'm disappointed by the poor AF performance of the 12-60 on the E-M5....
