Re: Mono or Colour?

I prefer B&W for this image. It's amazing how different the moods are! The color is so vibrant that it overpowers everything else in the image for me. It certainly makes the scene look more cheerful,...

Re: Adobe CS6 - the last version that you can own and use for ever

This suggests exactly the point I was trying to make. It's not that there is inherently wrong with what Adobe are doing with any of their software. The problem is with one's expectations--it's all in...

Re: Adobe CS6 - the last version that you can own and use for ever

I have never liked Photoshop, and have therefore never bought or used it. I find it big, clunky, non-intuitive, and absurdly expensive. So my interest in this development is strictly academic. We...

Re: Eyeglasses and Photography

It sounds like what you really need is an E-M5 rather than an E-P5. I find that I use the rear screen to compose much more than I thought I would, but I don't have the same problems viewing it that...

Re: Eyeglasses and Photography

Dan, exactly what is it about your glasses/eyesight that makes using the LCD difficult?

I've been wearing bifocals since I was 12 (30 years--hard for me to believe!) I've gotten used to them,...

Re: Getting Creative With Lawn Weeds.

I never understood why so many people dislike dandelions. They are perfectly pretty little flowers, as your photo show. And they take much less work than maintaining a perfect green lawn of grass!

Re: Photo Exhibition in North Carolina

I was at the Artscenter last night for the series of Improv classes I've been taking. The photo exhibit was on display, so I took just a quick look (I'm saving the detailed look for opening night!)...

Re: Photo Exhibition in North Carolina

Yes, both of these were taken with the E-410. 12-60 SWD for the Barn and Silos, 50-200 SWD for the Elephant. The extra sharpness of the E-M5 would have been nice (if it had existed at the time), and...

Re: Photo Exhibition in North Carolina

I received a phone call from the Artscenter this morning. "Barn and Silos" has been awarded "Best in Show," the top prize in the contest! It looks as though I correctly guessed that the judge would...

I like the high-key exposure/treatment. It's very effective here.

Re: Photo Exhibition in North Carolina

Thanks for planning to attend the exhibition, Dan! I entered 16x20" prints of both photos for this contest. I have no idea what else will be in the exhibit, but as you know, there is a great wealth...

Re: Photo Exhibition in North Carolina

Thank you for the congratulations, gentlemen, and for the vote of confidence. I know you would come in person if you could, Jeff. :)

Barn and Silos is one of my favorites as well. I'm hoping that...

Photo Exhibition in North Carolina

I recently entered a local photo contest in Carrboro, North Carolina, right next door to my home town of Chapel Hill. I just received news that the judging is complete, and both of my entries have...

Re: Metz vs promaster vs oem flash

Several years ago, I was trying to decide between the Olympus FL-50R and the Metz 58 AF-1. There is a thread about my experiences with the Metz here:...

Re: Panasonic Announce the LUMIX DMC-G6

There may be a lot to like about the G6, but the ancient (by digital standards) sensor is a big thing NOT to like. I think it's a terrible mistake to saddle a new camera with a sensor that is at...

Re: Tripod recommendations - particularly for macro?

I have a Giottos MT-8361 and am very happy with it. This is a carbon-fiber model, but they make less expensive basalt and aluminum ones as well. The legs can be set to three different angles and the...

Beautiful portraits of your granddaughters, Paul. The compositions and "poses" are great. I like the processing as well.

Re: 150mm f/2.0, 35-100mm f/2.0 w/EC-14 or 50-200 SWD?

An interesting and informative test, Ian! Thank you for your detailed report. I wonder if the haziness in the 35-100/EC-14 combo is the result of the number of lens elements the light has to go...

Re: Four Thirds User Knowledge Base Wiki passes 200 pages

Could you add more days to the week? Or shorten my work week to 4 days, or 3, or . . . ;) Time is the only thing keeping me from contributing!

Re: Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF6 hands-on preview plus initial downloadable image samples

You can have our global warming . . .

Spring came very late here as well this year. We are just now getting leaves on the trees, several weeks later than usual. But last July, we had a week...

Re: Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF6 hands-on preview plus initial downloadable image samples

I find the GF-6 to be an attractive camera with some appealing features. It's great to see that Panasonic finally put a good LCD in an entry-level camera; I think this is necessary to compete in...

Re: Rear screen image?

In very dark lighting, such as when viewing the night sky, the camera has to amplify the signal from the sensor a great deal to attempt to provide a live view image with a reasonable refresh rate. It...
